The Constitution was written to guarantee Live, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. It was well written then and it serves us well today. How the government writes laws that reduce these rights is what we have to worry over. All laws should be written to protect these three precepts - never to deny.
I believe in life and that all should be able to live it as they choose. I believe life is a treasure as well as a mystery. I believe we have the right and should live it as it was intended to be lived. No one should have the right to deny life as we will never fully understand how it begins nor how it ends. The evil actions of others should never serve to reduce the good actions of others.
I believe in liberty. I believe that within every soul lies the hope, will and capacity to reach for its own good. With liberty, I further believe in our inalienable right to be free from coercion. I believe in MY government so long as it places that liberty at the center of its own existence. Our government should enforce and create laws solely to protect our freedoms, not deny freedoms. I believe in the right to own property, to maintain it against the benign suffocation even of MY government - this is of paramount importance to me as it should be to you. I believe in freedom of speech and of contract, the right to offend, the right to protect myself and family from others - including a tyrannical government. I believe that each of our freedoms is connected in spite of the fact that we are a very diverse society with diverse wills. No freedom should trample over the other, nor should others be able to trample the liberty of others. The actions of a few should not serve to limit the hopes, desires and liberties of others.
I believe in the pursuit of happiness. I believe that it is the journey which is of utmost importance and our defining factor - it is not the end state of life that we should worry over. I believe in the struggle to remake ourselves and challenge one another, we should forgive; we should embrace all of our differences, so long as they are not thrust upon us or would comprises our beliefs. Just as we should embrace our differences, we should maintain our own convictions and choose our own pursuits without fear of others choosing for us.
And I believe in MY country so long as it protects my life, my liberty and my Pursuit of Happiness. These three things are a promise from my country just as they are a gift from God. This makes our Constitution great. I believe in My country since it promises nothing but the promise of being more fully human, it never guarantees success or the pursuit of success. Failure is an option, as it is a choice!
And I believe any laws that further deny any of these rights are in total disagreement with the Constitution and with God’s gift. As more and more unnecessary laws are written that redefine the original intent of Constitution and the words therein, they only serve to further enslave.
