The Constitution

Was the Constitution written to guarantee Live, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness? Or, was it good only then and does not serve us well today? How the government writes new laws that reduce these rights is what we have to consider. Do you believe that all new laws should be written to further protect these three precepts – or further constrain or deny our rights?
I believe in life and that all should be able to live life as they choose. I believe life is a treasure as well as a mystery. I believe we have the right and should be allowed to live it as it was intended to be lived. No one should have the right to deny life as we will never fully understand how it begins nor how it ends. The denying actions of others should never serve to reduce the good actions of others.
I believe in liberty. I believe that within every soul lies the hope, will and capacity to search for its own good or to seek evil ways. With liberty, I further believe in our inalienable right to be free from coercion. I believe in MY government so long as it places liberty at the capstone of our well-being and not merely to serve its own existence. Our government should enforce and create laws solely to protect our freedom; it should never seek to deny our freedoms. I believe in the right to own property, to maintain it against unwarranted seizure, and to live comfortably and freely within my own walls. This is of paramount importance to me as it should be to you. I believe in freedom of speech and of contract, the right to offend, the right to protect myself and family from others - including a tyrannical government. I believe that each of our freedoms is connected, in spite of the fact, that we are a very diverse society with diverse wills, we must strive to get along with one another. One’s freedom should not be able to trample over the freedoms of others, nor should others be able to trample the liberty of our own. The actions of a few/many should not serve to limit the hopes, desires and liberties of the few/many.
I believe in the pursuit of happiness. I believe that it is the journey in life which is of utmost importance and our defining factor - it is not the end-state of life that we should worry over. I believe in the struggle to remake ourselves and challenge one another, we should learn to forgive more, more so we should also learn how to forget. We should embrace all of our differences, so long as those difference are not thrust upon us or would have us comprises our beliefs. Just as we should consider our differences, we should maintain our own convictions and choose our own pursuits without fear of others choosing for us.
And I believe in MY country so long as it protects my life, my liberty and my Pursuit of Happiness. These three God given rights were an original a promise from my country just as they are a gift from God. This is what makes our Constitution great. I believe in MY country since it promises nothing less than the promise of being fully human, it never guarantees success or seeks to limit the pursuit of success. Failure is an option, not a choice!
And I believe any law that further denies any of these rights is in total disagreement with the Constitution and with God’s gift. As more and more unnecessary laws are written that redefine the original intent of Constitution and the words therein, they only serve to further enslave not empower.

Taxes

This morning as I turned on the TV set on my way to make coffee, a national ( CNN:HLN Channel) news segment had apparently earlier asked its viewers to write in and tell them who "they would raise taxes on if they had the ability to do so". I'm paraphrasing now but here is how it was played out: One person wrote in and said, "raise taxes on the big oil companies but do it APPROPRIATELY". This individual's email actually had the word APPROPRIATELY spelled in capital letters. The second individual wrote in and said, "raise taxes on the junk food companies because they make food taste good which forces us to eat it and yet it is bad for us".  (They will one day raise prices on Junk Food, mark my words!) Honest, i'm not making this up!!!!! As to the first writer, i'm ASSUMING (I capitalized this word to make a point too) they think raising taxes APPROPRIATELY would not effect the average consumer - ergo, their use of the CAPS! In o...

The Lawyer Vs the Entrepreneur

I have been mulling this thought over for some time now and feel it needs to be put to pen. Ever wonder how many of our elected officials in Washington were real entrepreneurs before seeking your vote? I wasn't really sure, but I had my own opinion! Well, most are lawyers. To be an entrepreneur or to want to become one takes a drive that not all individuals have. Long tedious hours, broke one moment rich the next - then broke perhaps again - then having to make the payroll, paying bills, wondering if you're going to make it, re-wondering, thinking rethinking, etc. Hard life! Entrepreneurs are almost like the everyday married couple I guess; long hours, being broke one moment a little money the the next - then broke perhaps again, paying bills. Takes a rare breed to be successful at being married and/or an entrepreneur. The exhilaration of success is ONE driver that surely inspires and keeps a person going in business. Bottom line is that it takes a deep abiding drive, i...
