I cannot begin to recall another time in my 6 decades of life that I have worried more about freedoms and those that are slowly eroding from us! I do remember my mother’s stories and how she witnessed events both pre and post-world war German and their eventual losses of freedom! She witnessed how Fascism, Nazism & Socialism, of one kind or another, slowly creeped into the mainstream and way of life in her homeland. Call it Fascism, Socialism, Nazism, Capitalism or any of the other ism’s; that same sort of event is now transpiring in our own country. Those same ism’s are creeping into our lexicon but not into our comprehension or understanding. If you don’t comprehend or understand any of these ism’s, you are in dire need of some education! History will repeat itself! I think we are at that same point in America. We are not at a “crossroads”; we are at a “fork in the road”. Slowly we are each taking either the left or the right fork in the road and moving apart as a society; from beliefs in Capitalism, Freedom of Speech, Will of the People, to those that believe in Socialism, Big Brother, and Government provided “This and That”. We cannot have it both ways and survive! If history serves me right, no major government every fell because of war, but rather due to apathy or those of the population wanting more and more government and with that the hand-outs large governments provide (that is: until the “this and that’s” run out)! We each need to take a very “Hard Look” at the DNC and RNC platforms. Not just at the people running in the upcoming elections but rather the platforms themselves. Make a list of each of their particular platforms and then make an educated choice based on your beliefs as they relate to the platforms. Don’t base it on emotion alone, but base your choice on your core principles. Then go back and actually read the Constitution and Bill of Rights. No other nation on this earth is as structured as is America…none! If you feel those documents only protect a FEW and not ALL, your vote will be an easy one!
This morning as I turned on the TV set on my way to make coffee, a national ( CNN:HLN Channel) news segment had apparently earlier asked its viewers to write in and tell them who "they would raise taxes on if they had the ability to do so". I'm paraphrasing now but here is how it was played out: One person wrote in and said, "raise taxes on the big oil companies but do it APPROPRIATELY". This individual's email actually had the word APPROPRIATELY spelled in capital letters. The second individual wrote in and said, "raise taxes on the junk food companies because they make food taste good which forces us to eat it and yet it is bad for us". (They will one day raise prices on Junk Food, mark my words!) Honest, i'm not making this up!!!!! As to the first writer, i'm ASSUMING (I capitalized this word to make a point too) they think raising taxes APPROPRIATELY would not effect the average consumer - ergo, their use of the CAPS! In o...
