Whether or weather

A new year is around the corner, and some climate scientists and environmental activists say that means we're one step closer to a climate Armageddon. But are we really? Predicting the weather -- especially a decade or more in advance -- is unbelievably challenging. What's the track record of those most worried about global warming? Decades ago, what did prominent scientists think the environment would be like in 2010? FoxNews.com has compiled eight of the most egregiously mistaken predictions, and asked the predictors to reflect on what really happened. 1. Within a few years "children just aren't going to know what snow is." Snowfall will be "a very rare and exciting event." Dr. David Viner, senior research scientist at the climatic research unit (CRU) of the University of East Anglia, interviewed by the UK Independent, March 20, 2000. Ten years later, in December 2009, London was hit by the heaviest snowfall seen in 20 years. And just last week, ...

Bush Era Taxes

Democrats, those against extending Bush era taxes, now say they should NOT vote for this extension program because they don't know what "is in the program". And they KNEW what was in the Health Care package...?

Background noise makers

There are those that want to stay in the background and not make waves, others want to be at the head of the line trying to create a tsunami. There are those that don't know what they want and are content to keep it that way and there are others that know exactly what they want and want the world to know. Being at either end of these character traits is not wrong. If you look closely at yourself you can relate to one or perhaps more of these at some point in your life. I can adamantly say that in my lifetime I have seen myself at the extreme ends of all these these characteristics at one time or another. Perhaps we are a product of our own imagination. If you can imagine it, you can achieve it... I believe as we get older perhaps we all begin to reflect on the "what ifs" in our life. At least, that is what I think! Where would I be, what would I be doing, if I had done some things different. Perhaps too, this reflection takes place because we begin to see an en...

Beer

Read a story that Beer had a very profound effect on "sowing the seeds of civilization"... This gives me a new meaning to the phrase "Beer, its what's for dinner!"

No new taxes...

I remember when Bush "41" lost his bid for a second term when he uttered the term "read my lips, no new taxes" and then voters ousted him when his administration admitted the need to raise them. Apparently, Obama "1" wants to halt Social Security COLAs & drop the Home Mortgage Interest deductions. I thought he also ran on "no ... raise in taxes"! Well, what say you now voters? Actually had someone try and explain to me that these were not new taxes....huh!

Stimulus Package

In 2008, poverty levels were calculated at a family making less than $23K. If applied, the last "stimulus" of $800B, and were portioned to each and EVERY US Citizen we would have rec'd about $2.5K (per man, woman, child), if that same $800B were given to the 45 million workers, each would have rec'd about $18K. What a concept!

No if's, and's or but's....

No if's, and's or but's - the upcoming election is very important...AND, it will be nasty. Prepare to vote and vote for candidates that truly believe in OUR Constitution, understand we ARE a sovereign Nation, acknowledge States Rights, know this Nation was founded "under God", and WE have inalienable rights. Anything less should be considered as an affront to our beliefs, our principles and very way of life. Vote - as if this could be your last vote! Finally, hold them accountable!

Readable Laws

WHY CAN'T THEY WRITE LAWS THE AVERAGE READER CAN READ AND UNDERSTAND"...now I finally understand why Nancy Palosi said, "we have to pass a law to know what is in it" and the author of a law, Max Baucus, to say "I shouldn't be expected to read a law as it takes experts to understand the law". Apparently, its because neither of them are experts....

2010 Memorial Day

I AM DAMN PROUD AND CANNOT BEGIN TO EXPRESS MY SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR THE AMERICAN SERVICEMEN AND WOMEN. THEY ARE TRUE PATRIOTS AND HERO'S. If Obama does not make a covert visit to salute them in Iraq or Afghanistan this Memorial Day weekend, shame on him.

2010 Hurricane Season

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issues its 2010 hurricane season forecast, predicting one of the strongest seasons on record -- and reiterating fears that the Gulf oil spill may be impacted by the severe weather. Hurricane season for the western Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico begins June 1 and lasts through Nov. 30. That's when about 90 percent of the storms make themselves present, and the predictions for this season are grim -- which could wreak further havoc on the Gulf Coast. NOAA's forecast predicts as many as 23 named storms during the Atlantic hurricane season, with three to seven becoming serious enough to be classified as major hurricanes. Named storms come with top winds of 39 mph or higher. The agency worries that as many as 14 could turn into hurricanes, with winds in excess of 74 mph, and three to seven could be Category 3, 4 or 5 storms with winds of at least 111 mph. “If this outlook holds true, this season could be one of the mo...

Fly the flag.

I guess i'm getting all this wrong or perhaps to old to understand. Apparently, it is NOT OK to wear the US colors on ones shirt. I thought the first amendment allowed this expression of free speech. I don't do it, but I do not see anything wrong with someone appropriately wearing and/or displaying of the red white and blue colors. If they do it inappropriately, that is their business also - act the fool, be the fool. However, when a school bans the wearing of the Red White or Blue in school and expels the wearer, then that is wrong. Totally wrong! No matter the circumstances. It appears celebration of cinco de mayo in our schools is appropriate; waving of the Mexican flag is also fine, but it is wrong to wear the US flag as a shirt in school. One of these acts necessitated the vice principal of a California high school to action and send folks home - some students stepped over the bounds and were not welcome. You guess which event precipitated this action. I liv...

Income Tax time....

In the very beginning, Income tax including the IRS were not well rec'd by the majority of Americans. It was of very little concern to most as it was thought of by most as being unconstitutional. So no big deal! The government was always authorized to collect taxes to "pay for debt and provide for the common welfare of the United States". That was the full extent of the powers the government had..to tax the states. The government had no right in its early years to tax people according to income. Even then, the majority of the population was against any sort of personal income tax. It was a hot topic and debated vigorously by the congress. It took decades, but relentlessly, the government did not give up on income taxes. Finally, at the turn of the 19th century, Americans sort of gave up and proclaimed, it was OK to begin a tax....so long as the tax was only applied against the very rich. It was looked upon as a redistribution of money from the rich to pay for the...

Race to space! We lose, again!

Well, now that the administration announced the complete elimination of the space shuttle program, they will leave it up to private industry to get astronauts into space. How nice of him to think capitalists can still get something done! I plan on entering the 'race to space' as I still have a rather large stash of bottle rockets left over from last years July 4th celebration. Apparently, Obama feels NASA scientists should now begin concentrating on real world issues, like global warming. Hey, I don't make this up, he made the decision! Guess Obama no longer feels he needs to model himself after John F. Kennedy. JFK was a much more enlighten president. JFK felt it absolutely necessary the US should have a needed presence in space. JFK inspired NASA to build a rocket, orbiter, lunar lander and a earth reentry craft in a short 8 years. Obama can't fund a new program to bring our astronauts home, if needed. India, Japan and China will now surpass our presence in ...

Ponder this!

The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools who made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of morons such as those who made him their president. Author Unknown

High cost of knee surgery

As some of you might know, I recently had arthroscopic surgery on my left knee. Just looked over the 14 pages of itemized services provided by the hospital and staff. Wonderful staff, this I have to admit. My medical records for the 45 minute surgery was a whooping $21k of which insurance paid $16k. (Since I told em I was from the border town of South Slovakia; they moved the balance due over to some Democrat who was in at the same time for his annual flu shot) Here are but a few of the listed actual itemized charges: NEPTUNE MANIFOLD (I don't know what that is but, I sure hope it helps me to stop snoring) it costs 87.28; INCISOR cost 145.08 (happy they didn't work on my molar) SUCTION MAT was 38.35, (Walmart has them discounted for only 4.98 or two for 10.00); STYLET INTUBATION SATIN SLIP (love that name - now I'm the envy of the neighborhood) I got for a steal at only 12.95; SOLN LR 1000 for 140.00 (betcha they could have used the LR 750 for half that cost...

Letter from/for Congressman Bart Gordon

Dear Bob, Knowing your interest in health care reform legislation, I wanted to share with you how I plan to vote on the final health care reform package. The health care bill being considered by Congress now accomplishes three things: one, it reduces health care costs for families and small businesses; two, it improves access to affordable care, regardless of pre-existing conditions; three, it lowers our budget deficit. That's why I am supporting it. Over the past year, I have been contacted by thousands of Middle Tennesseans with opinions on health care. Because this issue is so important, I have heard from passionate voices on all sides through face-to-face meetings, call-ins, surveys, town halls, calls and letters. During that time, I have consistently said I would not support any version of health care reform unless it brings down rising health care costs, improves access to affordable care, and does it all without adding one nickel to the national deficit. I've no...

Sen. Everett Dirksen

You can find these words in the congressional records; the quotes were attributed to Sen. Everett Dirksen, a senator from the State of Illinois: (On Government Spending and Growth) - in 1951. “Mr. President, within a short stone's throw of where we are debating today sits a committee of Senators sweating, laboring earnestly to find a million dollars here, a few hundred thousand dollars there, in taxes. They are sitting within a few steps of this Chamber. I am referring to the Senate Finance Committee. They are trying to protect the business structure of the country which generates the wealth which produces the taxes we so wantonly and with blithe spirits and gleeful abandon freely squander. And I think it is squandering, as a matter of fact. This is the most remarkable area of contrast that I know anything about. In that committee they try to find a few million dollars in taxes. Here we are considering an amendment increasing an already huge appropriation by $1,000,000,000. It is...

Catch the next stagecoach

I’ve done lots of reading about the old west and western movies and one area that interests me is the stagecoach, the mass transit of the time. Back then, when riding the coach, a passenger would be required to make a choice as to the type of ticket they would buy. Did you know a stagecoach passenger could choose between three classes of tickets: first, second, or third class? The term coach, even today in airline travel, implies a second class seat. If the stage passenger chose a first class ticket, they were afforded special treatment or guarantees the other class passengers were not given. A first class ticket meant they would be provided food at certain stops along the way, choice of seat on a non-heated, non-air-conditioned, wooden box that seemed to hit every rut on the road while being pulled along at a blazing speed of 20 – 40 total miles in a 12 – 18 hour day – depending on the time of year and weather, of course. There were other significant fringe benefit first clas...

The Western

I grew up with a deep affection for western movies….any western. They mesmerized me. They entertained me, and in my mind they even transported me to another era and time. Whatever it was, they were addictive. I could watch westerns for hours and hours and then repeat the process. Even to this day, I can watch the same western I saw years ago with the same enthusiasm as if seeing it for the very first time. Westerns have a way of electrifying my mind that any other movie genre can rarely accomplish. Perhaps, the quintessential western transformed me and taught me meaningful life-long lessons and helped shape me into the person that I am to this very day. It was the older westerns that invariably taught me some of the best lessons; there where good guys and bad guys in this world, right and wrong, and you were honor bound by your work and a hand-shake. Back in my era, good guys always wore the white hat and bad guys wore the black hat; and the good guy would always overcome the...

Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi in a recent news broadcast interview, calls the tea party movement the "AstroTurf" movement. I don't know what that infers, but I do know that she is wrong in her attempt to dissuade and mock a group of people from exercising their constitutional right of freedom of expression.  What I do know is this expression is born of frustration and must indicate she is pressed up against the wall and now must pressure or persuade her own colleagues to vote for legislation that the majority of Americans do not support, as currently written, even at the cost of losing their jobs.  Apparently, she is unable to even get the support of most of her party. All this tells me is how desperate she must feel to continue to push a bipartisan unpopular legislation. Either she has a strong conviction or a strong constitution - she has to be full of something...and that movement sure wouldn't look good on "AstroTurf"!

Dalia Lama

It's just shameful to allow someone (anyone) to be ushered out of the White House (the People's House) by a side door past garbage bags.  Well, that's just how the President of the United States made the Dalia Lama, an official Head of State, and spiritual leader of Tibet, leave today after their short meeting.  It was disgraceful!  You think the Chinese had anything to do with this contrived exit planned by our esteemed President.  Obama wanted to let the Chinese know he did not support or endorse this "man of peace", a rightful and worthy recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.   The Dalai Lama's treatment was one laced with total indignation; his exit was a sign showing this President's willingness yet again to bow down.  I'm not sure this man understands America and how Americans treat friends and allies! I realize he has been getting low key treatment from our presidents for the past 20 some odd years.  But, clean up the garbage from beside the do...

Watch but don't shoot!

A policy of the US Military, now fighting in Afghanistan, is not to open fire or return fire unless fired upon AND see them with weapons in hand.  If you don't believe me, look it up yourself. I saw several interviews with our troops who say they can't return fire unless they see weapons in the hands of the enemy and are shot at.  Can you just imagine how frustrating this must be to a soldier?  How deadly have the consequences of this policy been?  How does this sort of policy get enacted in the first place?  How stupid is this anyway?  Why even have our troops there?  They actually said they saw snipers shoot at them and then later walk out of a building as if nothing was wrong. I liken this policy to the opening scene of the TV series Gunsmoke.  The villain is out in the street and holding a pistol hidden behind his back; Marshall Dillon's gun is strapped and locked in its holster with the written instructions (open only in case of emergency...

Three great movies!

There are three great movies that I think are well worth watching, even though they are filmed in black and white.  For me, they don't make movies like this anymore. They are: "This Land is Mine" (1944), "The Seventh Cross" (1943), and "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946).  These three are some of my most favorite movies.  Each deals with deep human emotions, overcoming extreme adversity, man's inhumanity toward his fellow man, and the basic will to subconsciously do what is right, even in the face of extreme hardship.  Perhaps a major reason I enjoy viewing these movies is they transport me back to another era and time, of memories of my mother; of how her life must have been like in pre and post-war Germany, and of how she had to survive during that horrific period of time. Each of these movie's primarily focus is from the adult's sufferings, their actions or in-actions and how they eventually overcome tragedy and adversities. However, th...

Hope

Why are so many more people concerned about there exterior appearance than they are about their interior self-worth and spirit?   What good is it to look 55 at age 70 and laid up in a nursing home with no hope what-so-ever!

Miranda Rights

Eric Holder (US Attorney Gen) wants to spend $200M to put one terrorist on trial here in the US instead of using a Military Tribunal.  He says they want to give him a fair trial.  Then we have Robert Gibbs (WH Press Secretary) who openly says his will stand trial and he will be executed.  Is all this ignorant or what!? If this terrorist stands trial and they apply US law, he could potentially get off on a technicality!  Dumber things have happened!  One reason is that he was not read his Miranda rights when he was captured.  Now what little law I do know is that if you aren't read those rights when you are arrested - nothing said may be used against you and you could walk! What are we doing folks?  Who do we believe?  From all I know and have read this terrorist is a military combatant, he should be tried by the military and it shouldn't cost $200M.  It should only cost the price of 2 folding tables, 9 folding chairs, 2 pots of coffee, a ...

Another Patriot

This is the kind of spirit we need in public service...  my fervent prayer is that the office Allen seeks will not ruin or diminsh his zeal! Please, if you live in Allen's district in Flordia, look at his record, what he stands for and what he desires to accomplish. www.allenwestforcongress.com/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP2p91dvm6M

Three strike rule

In a recent article (Jan 07, 2010) in US Today, White House national security adviser James Jones said "President Obama "is legitimately and correctly alarmed that things that were available, bits of information that were available, patterns of behavior that were available, were not acted on."  He further went on to say, "That's two strikes", referring to the failed Northwest jet attack and the shooting massacre at Fort Hood, Texas, in November. Finally, Gen. Jones, a retired four-star Marine general, told the paper that Obama "certainly doesn't want that third strike, and neither does anybody else."  Duh! What amazes me is even this trained military expert would rather tone down the attacks by equating them to baseball game jargon!  How utterly ridiculous!  I really feel safe now that they will again start checking the 99.99% of us passengers for fingernail clippers and tweezers and make you pour out your starbucks.  We're spending bi...
