Now this is something that really gets my gourd. They are selling "FAKE PINE" trees at stores for the Christmas Season. Can you tell me just one thing that I would want to do with a fake pine tree in my house -since apparently its not a fake Christmas Tree. I realize that it was only a custom and erecting a Christmas Tree can be traced to 16th century Germany, though neither an inventor nor a single town can be identified as the sole origin for the tradition. The earliest that a "real" pine tree was ever used and decorated for Christmas was in 1521 in Germany (in the region of Alsace). In the Cathedral of Strasbourg in 1539, the church record mentions the erection of a Christmas tree - not a pine tree! I like the term - Christmas Tree.
But, I know all this.., as I'm of German Decent, but now I am an American - just "American", thank you!!! And, I/we celebrate Christmas! A Christmas Tree has been a "tradition" for us ever since i can remember, it is not a Sacred Tree - never has been, never will be. We just put gifts under it and give the gifts to others and get gifts. I like calling it a Christmas Tree. I have always called it a Christmas Tree. I will always call it a Christmas Tree. When I was young I enjoyed getting presents from under the Christmas Tree. Now that I am an adult I enjoy putting gifts under the CHRISTMAS TREE for others to receive.
What harm do we do to others to call the CHRISTMAS TREE a CHRISTMAS TREE? Why are stores afraid to call it a CHRISTMAS TREE and resort to the code word "fake pine tree"? This political correctness is too much! If I offend anyone, so be it! I/WE have a right to offend, if I/We choose - it's legal, it constitutional, and its ok morally too! Apparently, some stores don't want to condone us heritics practicing our traditions. Ahh, get over it!

I've been seeing Christmas trees at the stores, but I haven't noticed the retailers aren't calling them what they are. Dang, that's extreme. Christmas trees and other decorations are being displayed for sale earlier and earlier each year, too. It's sad that's happening...but they can never, ever take away the real meaning of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteFrom John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through Him, and without Him nothing came to be. What came to be through Him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
There's a DVD called "The Gospel of John," and another, "The Nativity Story." The Gospel of John movie is true to scripture and the Nativity Story is the best movie I've seen depicting the birth of our Savior.
