I can actually say that I personally have never charged friends for helping them out or doing something for them. Never have, never will! That's just me!
I can say I have helped my son do jobs for friends when he has had to charge them for his services - when he needed the money. Rightly and justly so - he needed to do so! (This is not to say he has not helped me out when I needed money when I helped him do the work - he gave of HIS money)
I have discovered that when you help a friend out and not charge them for your help you always are welcomed as a friend. When you charge them a service fee you eventully become a contractor. I would rather be a full-time friend than a part-time contractor. Two distinctly different terms.
